• In 1990 a group of local Manatee County business women along with AAUW and Altrusa introduced the concept of a Women’s Resource Center in Manatee County . The idea was to help women who did not qualify for assistance, but did not make enough money to support themselves. In the spring of 1990, a Charter Member Luncheon was held with over 400 women in attendance in support of the Center.
  • In 1993 Southeast Bank/Downtown donated office space to the Women’s Resource Center and thus began the referral aspect of the agency. After hundreds of referrals, The WRC moved into a small rental house on 55th Ave. W , and we began offering counseling, client assistance, job club and seminars.
  • In 1996 The WRC received our first county grant for our Smart Women’s Program, established a computer lab on-site and offered weekly classes.
  • In 1999 we purchased our first permanent facility and our current home at 1926 Manatee Ave West in downtown Bradenton.
  • In 2005, we opened our own upscale clothing boutique, Unique Boutique (Formerly Restyled Rags)  in Jennings Arcade, 417 12 th St W. Bradenton, FL.
  • Today, the WRC is proud to be at the forefront of women’s services in Manatee County. Each year we impact the lives of over 4,000 women either through a program or a referral. We truly believe when you Empower a  Woman, You Change a Life and Strengthen a Community.
